Frequently asked questions
Everything businesses ask about TAB, in one place.
Getting Started
Do my customers need to download anything?
No. A QR code opens in the phone's browser, your storefront is a web link, and WhatsApp is already on their phone. There is nothing for a customer to install or sign up for.
Do I need to buy a card machine or any hardware?
No. TAB is a web app, so whatever you already own is what you sell on: a phone, a tablet, a laptop, or a POS terminal that opens a browser.
We already have a card machine. Is it wasted?
No. Collect on the terminal you have and record the payment in TAB, so the order and the payment still line up. Collecting in TAB is there if you would rather not run a machine at all.
Can I load a catalogue I already have in a spreadsheet?
Yes. Import a spreadsheet, or add items by hand if the list is short. Most businesses do both: bulk import most of it, then tidy the awkward lines individually. Opening the account takes minutes; loading the catalogue properly is the part that takes real time.
Can TAB run a supermarket checkout?
No. There are no barcode scanners at the checkout and no goods priced by weight on a scale. TAB is built for a counter rather than a checkout lane, so a full supermarket should look elsewhere.
Ordering & Payments
Can I keep taking bank transfers?
Yes. Bank transfer is one of the methods TAB collects, and it attaches to the order automatically rather than arriving as a screenshot you have to match by hand.
What happens to a table's QR code after the table pays?
It releases itself the moment payment completes and is ready for the next guests. The code is fixed to the table; the order is not.
What if a customer wants to pay on delivery?
Record the payment in TAB when you collect it. The order and the payment still line up even when the cash arrives later.
Can I take a deposit rather than the full amount?
Yes. Send an order for the deposit and settle the balance on the day. Both attach to the same customer's history.
Does TAB have a loyalty programme?
Yes. Customers earn points and tiers with your business, and can check their points, tier and rewards themselves from your loyalty link.
Can a group split the bill?
Yes. Most bills are paid in full, and a group that wants to split can, each paying their share from their own phone.
Inventory & Products
What happens when two people buy the last one at the same time?
Stock is held against the order that reaches TAB first, and the item comes off sale for everyone else at that moment. That is the point of one shared record rather than several copies.
Can different items have different reorder levels?
Yes. Reorder levels sit on the item, because a line that sells out weekly and a line that sells out yearly should not share a threshold.
Does TAB count food and ingredients?
Partly, and it is worth knowing which part. Bottles and packaged goods carry a real count. A dish is marked off when the kitchen calls it rather than counted, and there is no recipe costing to the gram and no waste logging.
Can TAB handle suppliers, purchase orders and expenses?
Yes, through the optional back-office module, powered by Billif APP. Switch it on in your settings to manage vendors, purchase orders, payables, approvals and expenses alongside your sales.
Can I sell goods priced by weight?
No. Lines that sell by the unit are handled; goods priced per kilogram at a scale are not.
WhatsApp & Online Ordering
How do customers start a WhatsApp order?
When you finish setting up, TAB generates a WhatsApp ordering link for your business. Share it wherever you already talk to customers, and they browse, choose, confirm and get a payment link themselves, without anyone having to take the order for them.
Do I have to connect my own number?
No. The link is generated for you at the end of onboarding. There is nothing to migrate and no number to hand over.
Can I still reply to people myself?
Yes. The ordering becomes a real order on its own, and the rest of the conversation is still yours to have. It is not a chatbot answering for you.
Can I sell through Instagram as well?
Yes. Your storefront link is a web page, so it works in a bio, a story or a comment reply, on the same catalogue and the same stock as WhatsApp.
Can TAB send marketing messages to my customers?
No. TAB records who bought from you, so the customer list is yours, but it does not do broadcasts or automated campaigns.
Restaurant Operations
Can the kitchen and the bar see different things?
Yes. An order splits by station, so the kitchen sees food with its modifiers and the bar sees drinks. Each ticket carries the table it came from.
Can staff still take orders when it gets busy?
Yes. Staff can place orders in TAB from any phone or tablet, so the floor keeps working the way it always has while guests who prefer to order themselves do that.
Can we sell outside the dining room?
Yes, on the same menu. Your storefront link and your WhatsApp ordering link both take orders for collection or delivery against the same stock.
Does TAB take reservations and appointments?
Yes. Restaurants take reservations, and a service business can share a booking link that customers use to pick their own day and time. A dining room built around a deep booking operation should ask how far ours goes before replacing what it has.
Can guests leave a tip?
Yes. Guests can add a tip at checkout, and tips are reported alongside your takings.
Can kitchen tickets print automatically?
Yes. With station printing on, tickets print on a thermal printer at each prep station as orders arrive, split so each station gets only its own items.
Can we stop taking orders when we are closed?
Yes. Set your opening and closing hours and orders are only accepted in between, or pause new orders instantly. Your menu stays visible to customers either way.
Can we run a private event on its own menu?
Yes. A function or a private booking is set up as its own event, with its own catalogue for the night.
Hotels & Shortlets
Can each outlet have its own menu and prices?
Yes. Outlets carry their own catalogue, prices and service hours while sitting on one account.
Does room service work when the restaurant is closed?
Yes. Service hours sit on the outlet, so the in-room catalogue runs on its own schedule.
How do staff see orders from several outlets?
As one queue, with each ticket tagged by where it came from. The kitchen works a single list rather than watching several channels.
Can charges go to the room bill?
Not today. TAB collects payment at the point of order rather than posting to a guest's folio. If room charging is essential, raise it before you go further.
Can TAB manage the rooms themselves?
No. TAB covers food, beverage and retail at a hotel or shortlet. There is no property management, no room booking and no housekeeping workflow.
I run shortlets, not a hotel. Is this relevant?
Yes, and it is one of the clearer cases. A code in the apartment is the front desk you do not have: breakfast, late checkout, the welcome pack and laundry, all offered and paid for without anyone being on site.
Staff & Branches
Can staff use TAB without seeing everything?
Yes. Team members get their own login with a role, so someone can sell at the counter without seeing your costs and your reports. Several people can sell at the same time.
Can I run more than one branch?
Yes. Each branch runs as its own business with its own stock, team and takings, and you switch between them from one login.
Can TAB move stock between my branches?
No. Each branch keeps its own count, and TAB will not move stock between them or buy for the group. A shared count across branches is a number that is true of nowhere in particular.
Is there a staff commission feature?
No. Team roles exist, but commission calculation does not. If commission is central to how you pay people, raise it early.
Reports & Analytics
When does the daily report arrive?
First thing in the morning, so it is in front of you while the day can still be changed. It covers what sold, what did not and what to reorder.
Can I see the whole business and each outlet separately?
Yes. Orders and takings are tagged by outlet, so the overall report and each outlet's view come from the same record.
Can I see which items actually earn, not just which ones sell?
Yes, where you have entered what each item cost you. With a cost on the line, TAB can show margin rather than just takings.
Pricing & Billing
What does a credit actually cost?
₦150, and one credit is one order. Buy 200 at a time and it is ₦135 each, which is ten per cent off. There is no minimum and no contract.
Is there a monthly fee?
No. There is no subscription and no platform fee. You buy credits, an order spends one, and a month in which you sell nothing costs you nothing.
What is the auto-subscription then?
Auto top-up. Switch it on and TAB buys more credits from your available funds the moment your balance reaches zero, so you are never stopped mid-service. It is a convenience on top of credits, not a separate plan.
Does every order use a credit?
Yes, whichever door it came through: a QR code at the table, a WhatsApp message, your storefront or the counter. One order, one credit.
Is anything else charged to credits?
Asking TAB's AI a question costs 0.15 of a credit per message, so roughly one credit for every seven questions. Everything else on this page is included.
Can I pay for credits out of my takings?
Yes, and most businesses do. Top up from your wallet balance and TAB is paid out of what it collected for you rather than out of a separate budget.
Do I pay per user or per outlet?
Neither. Team logins are included and several outlets sit on one account. The only thing that costs anything is an order, which means the bill tracks the business.
